Something Interesting about the Great Lakes

I happened onto the Nat Geo channel and they were talking about Isostatic rebound.  I have never heard anyone talk about this with all the recent lake level activity.  It’s like pushing your thumb into an under inflated basketball, as your thumb is removed, depending on the pressure inside the ball, it pops back into shape.  Well whats the rate at which the crust is pushing back out since the ice is gone, not much.  Nat geo quoted 1/10 of an inch per year, no big deal?  If you have lived near the lake for any some time, 10-20 years, if could be 1-2″ of lake level disappearing as the earth pops back out and pushes more water away. Over a lifetime it could account for 6-10″ of lake levels.  Just something to think about and nothing to do with human activity on the planet.  Grand total once the process completes itself is estimated at about 15 meters here around the Great Lakes.
