S&S Aqua Logging “We dont need no stinking permits”
I liked watching these guys because it was almost like a comedy show on how they operated. I guess it’s no surprise that they didn’t have the proper permitting. They have a donations button on there website for their legal fund. I won’t donate, everyone knows you need permits/licenses to do business. Next thing you will see is the IRS wondering where their cut is. GG for the DNR officials that watched the show to crack the case… I see there were on top of their stuff….

On Fri Mar 13 2009 Washington state’s Department of Natural Resources seized more than two dozen logs it says were illegally salvaged by a timber crew featured on the History Channel’s reality show “Ax Men.”
DNR officers served a search warrant on S&S Aqua Logging to retrieve timber the company had pulled from the Hoquiam River without a permit, said Larry Raedel, the agency’s chief enforcement officer.
Jimmy Smith, who owns and operates S&S Aqua Logging, said on the show that the logs were worth about $10,000, according to search warrant records.
“These are valuable materials that belong to the public and this looks like theft, plain and simple,They are part of the functioning ecosystem, so removing the log would be like removing part of the bed,” state Public Lands Commissioner Peter Goldmark said.
Logs provide a key function for rivers in trapping sediment, harboring insects and other food for fish, and creating pools and riffles where fish can rest, said Greg Hueckel, fish and wildlife habitat programs director.
Hueckel said his agency typically grants permits to remove logs in situations where flooding causes log jams. It’s unlikely that a permit would be granted for timber harvest, he said.
i have seen the show, the guy is a dumbass anyway.

Just another case of the government trying to get money from someones elses hard work.
The DNR on your side of the country is obviously a worthless agency also, as it is here.
Family business trying to make a living and now they want to fine them and put them in jail !!
Comment by Bearclaw — April 13, 2009 @ 1:13 pm
I am watching the show now and really dislike that aqua logging guy. He is verbally abusing his Son on the show. FYI I notice you always use “there” instead of “their” when you are talking about people, might want to keep that in mind.
Comment by Mike Hock — April 13, 2009 @ 10:26 pm
Who does this guy think he is? Even legitimate loggers who work in the woods obtain permits before they start cutting. In addition, they cannot go onto land they do not own, cut down trees at random, sell them and keep 100% of the money. That’s out right theft. Not to mention can you imagine how an act like this would have environmentalist up in arms. I’m glad they shut this guy down. He is a thief, stealing from the fish and other marine life, disrupting nature, stealing from land animals that eat marine life. He is even stealing from you as this is your environment. He is unprofessional and honestly they probably saved his life because the idiotic way he goes about things would likely end up killing him. He is a fine example of a “Stupid Criminal”. Anyone who donates to his “defense” fund has just let this guy rip them off again and told him that it was ok to do so in the first place. Total disgrace.
Comment by Appalled — April 14, 2009 @ 9:03 pm
Washington State has always been run by environMENTAL nut jobs like Apalled and the author of this article. I’m donating to these guys. Like it or not they are cleaning up the environment by removing the logs that weren’t there in the first place and reducing hazards in otherwise navigable waterways. The should be sending the State of Washington a bill!
The river was there millions of years before the logs were and will remain there long after Jimmy takes a few of them out. Those who would have any claim to compensation for these logs are the logging companies who originally cut them down. Not some pointy headed bureaucrat or the “fish and other marine life” (as appalled says) the fish and marine lif have had nearly 100 years to do something with these logs but have opted not to (lazy bastards.)
Yes, Jimmy gets overly excited, verbally abuses his son and friends, and he has a Rube Goldberg inspired operation but he should be championed as a guy who is starting with nothing and working toward the American Dream. It’s another all to familiar sign of a government run amuck when they seize property from a private citizen and then set out to justify their actions by making retroactive laws.
Comment by Beaten by the Man — April 15, 2009 @ 6:00 pm
I am all for pulling deadheads out of rivers and cleaning them up. There are legal issues with ownership, I would side with S&S Logging, first come first serve clean up the rivers. I will however not condone running a business without getting it setup properly. This only screws over everyone that plays by the rules. I wish I didn’t need the license and permits I have to operate, if someone does what I do without them, they should be closed down.

However, this is the best comedy show on TV.

Comment by Ohio Civil Engineer — April 21, 2009 @ 1:53 am
I watch this show religously and everytime this guy comes on, i start yelling at the tv. He is the worst dad ever, the worst business owner ever, and quite possibly the worst (and stupitest) criminal ever. People like him are the reason we have government agencies to keep people honest. Seriously, whould you rob a bank and have it televised to millions of viewers? lol I hope he gets whats comming to him.
Comment by Jeremy — April 21, 2009 @ 9:17 pm
First off I can’t believe a guy like this can even find help, but if you watch the show none of them last long. They must just do it out of sympathy or hoping they can absord some of the kids abuse. Second I can’t believe the some other locals are not beating him to the logs. He is so ill prepared he cant even steer a boat. He keeps screaming at his help and the kid when he is the one at the helm that needs to throw that heap in reverse to slow it down and steer his way down stream. Jimmy, Take your boat out and practice driving alone so you won’t have anyone to scream at or endanger please! And put a bigger motor on your barge, thats all you need not a bigger boat. Use the small boat to tend to roping the logswhile you just sit in the big one and shut up screaming doesnt substitute for experience. You and your crew need less screaming and more experience. Bring spare parts, and plan ahead don’t try to do too much! And lastly if you do all of this show rating will go down but you’ll be thougt of better by eweryone! I hope you see this good luck.
Comment by tim — April 22, 2009 @ 4:16 pm
These two guys have me laughing my guts out. I never watched this show until one day as I was channel surfing when I saw good old Jimmy shrieking at his poor son and ever since then I’ve been hooked. The last episode when he was putting his scuba gear on, grabbing on for dear life on the side of the boat and yelling under water was pure genius. True Ax-men fans are not going to admit it but a lot more people have been watching the show since S&S came on. I just feel bad about their reason troubles with the law and hope that the History channel helps them settle all of their legal battles so they can be back on the show next season. S&S have also inspired my friend and I to start our own Aqua logging business right here in NJ. There are many places were we can find fermented logs and we know that if we work hard like S&S we can make our business a success. So thank you S&S for not only teaching us about hard work but also for being a great inspiration.!!!
Comment by Eder — April 23, 2009 @ 9:13 am
They are a comedy team- I am surprised they are still alive. Anyone who knows boats has to know that if that rotten old manela or polyfiber line baked in the sun everyday on the wench on that ratty plywood barge breaks with all of that stress on there, the line will fly back and kill or seriously maime whoever is on that deck- yet they just walk around on the deck hauling a 10,000 lb. log, stepping over the line, back and forth etc.- no Hard hat either.
Instead of a defense fund, they need a fund to buy them a cover for that ratty old outboard motor.
I know boats backwards and forwards and have been sailing for over 50 years. That barge with the equipment would cost at most $10,000. The funniest think is that on his website, they show a $2,000,000.00 plus oilfield work boat like they own it.
Comment by Jim Smith — April 29, 2009 @ 7:18 pm
I suppose that the WA DNR will now have to use public funds i.e. tax dollars to return/replant all of those logs back to the bottom of the Hoquiam River so that future generations may enjoy seeing them. Yes, nothing like walking along the bottom of the Hoquiam River and seeing all of that lovely old growth.
Comment by Pete — April 30, 2009 @ 4:15 am
Next time I see trash on DNR land, I am going to leave it there, and the next time I see a bunch of greenies out picking up trash, I am going to make a complaint.

These guys make the show - who cares about Rygaard or Brownhole logging. Jimmy and James are funny and if you don’t like them then you are gay.
Comment by Erotica — May 4, 2009 @ 12:04 pm
DAMMIT JAMES!!!! This guy is such a dork….I’m not even sure why they have him on this show. He is in no way a logger, and he is definately not funny. I can deal with the loggers that yell and cuss at each other ( I live in a logging community and this is how they really are) but Jimmy goes way overboard yelling at his son who is trying to follow directions…..but it’s pretty difficult to do anything with numbnuts yelling at you. He needs to take a chill pill and freakin’ relax a little.
I’m also glad he’s gettin’ shut down before he ends up killing himself or his son. It’s pretty obvious he has no clue what he’s doing.
Comment by Tracy — May 4, 2009 @ 11:00 pm

James and Jimmy are awesome they have added some comic relief element to the show i always look foward to the next mess they get into. As far as him getting shut down I think it is BS whats wrong with getting that crap out of the way and making a few bucks. there has to be plenty of habitat and structure for wildlife. what about peoples boats and motors that get ruined.
Comment by Lorentz — May 6, 2009 @ 4:11 pm
LOL I cant believe that anyone would come to the defense of these guys. Yes they probably worked really hard to get the logs out of the river. I work really hard at my job too, but you know the difference, what i do is legal. Anyone that is in business knows there are many hoops to jump through (ie. permits, licensing, bonding, etc.) you can’t just jump on your piece of crap boat and go out and pull logs out of a river. If it were that easy everyone would be doing it.
Comment by Jeremy — May 13, 2009 @ 2:23 am
I could have sworn in one episode it looked like he was pulling logs from someone’s seawall…and I’m not talking the abandoned dock show either.

Hey man give Jimmy a break! He’s just trying to make a living and doing the best he can. Why are there so many haters on here? Let’s see you get out there and bust your hump all day aqua logging and see how “pleasant” you’ll act. Jimmy and his S&S Aqua Logging are a class act.
Comment by jimbo hughes — May 18, 2009 @ 11:32 am
‘The History Channel” contacted a local logging company and wanted the loggers to “mix it up and get a fight going” but the crew wasn’t into that style and said no thanks! So I’m not so sure Jimmy and his son weren’t acting for the camera. It was a fun to watch. Hope all the best for S & S logging!
Comment by Diane — May 18, 2009 @ 4:44 pm
yes there is a salvage permit required and they must not have one. ok give them a token ticket and let them get the permit and get on the work. after all this river is used by other boats that may hit the sinkers causing damage oil fuel or other crap to get into the river humm did the gov. think before they jumped ?. and YES
the old man is an asshole to his son he should have quit long ago but he must like the abuse or he wouldnt still be there. one thing I would suggest is that they use a shorter end on the logs they pull out so they wouldnt plow into the mud and muddy up the river also they will come out easy then. signed by a lifetime oregon logger
Steve.
Comment by steve — May 18, 2009 @ 4:59 pm
I thought they were hilarious until I saw the son throw an empty can of starting fluid into the weeds at the waters edge.
I have no problem with them pulling logs that are a hazard to river traffic or old broken down piers.
But don’t throw your trash around….that’s just trashy.
The son takes his dad in stride. It stinks that he loses his temper, but the son will either stick around or tell him he’s leaving one day. At least the son will be prepared for asshole bosses later in life.
Comment by Frugal Gal — May 18, 2009 @ 7:40 pm
Tonight’s episode was the best. His boat sinking then the trailer rolling back into the water while James tried to get behind the boat and stop it. Then when asked why he didn’t connect the safety chains, he replied. “I don’t have safety chains” I laughed until I hurt.
Comment by Ben — May 18, 2009 @ 10:49 pm
I’m wondering if they can substitute new logs for those old growth logs? And if so, would they prefer them placed right in the middle of the waterway again? How about stumps, we got lots of stumps layin around?
But, I agree with those that wonder why “Dad” can’t seem to figure out that HE’S supposed to be steering, and if they look ahead they could use secret signals like “Go Right” or “Go Left”…….or get really fancy and use Port and starboard.
Key= Port has 4 letters like Left, and Starboard is longer, like Right. Yep, Navy trained. LOL
I heard of a guy pulling logs out of an old mill pond back east and getting some wicked old growth stuff that was like gold.
Comment by hardwroc — May 18, 2009 @ 11:23 pm
I think it is obvious these guys did not have enough of a clue to know they needed a permit to do what they were doing, slap on the hand and a fine should be suffiecent and they get whatever permit they need. The logs are not in a natural setting, they are only there due to previous logging. With the exception of the logs he took from the abandoned dock, but that is a differnet violation of the law.
Now we move to the fact that this guy should not be driving a dingy, much less a boat in a commercial endeavor. I have never seen a more incompetent person trying to lead an incompentent crew. I mean no offense, but get some training.
Finally, I think it is great what they are doing, and the wood is beautiful. I do some wood working myself and would love to get a hold of some of this beautiful wood, but they look like such idiots getting it.

I come from a seagoing family, and I’ve spent a lot of time on the water (and under it). S&S is one of the most dangerous operations I have ever seen. I’m not a big fan of government intervention, but if something doesn’t shut S&S down, someone will eventually get killed. I don’t know what this guy should be doing for a living, but it should not involve anything large, dangerous, or sharp.

LOL I loved the comment about keeping anything large, dangerous, or sharp out of his scope of work. Working in the laundry room in prison might be perfect. I can only imagine him cruisin down the river doin 20 to 30 in that huge boat hes drooling over, bouncing off both banks and smashing into anything that gets in his way cause he cant figure out that pesky little steering wheel, meanwhile yelling at the top of his lungs. All while flying by many logs they could be picking up or clearing out of the river, cause thats what they are there for, right??? LOL dumb asses

My favorite episode was when Jimmy kept trying to toss a line around a piling, but he didn’t let out enough line and kept yelling at James to “Catch it!. Toss rope, “Catch it!” Toss rope, “Catch it!” Over and over…
Jimmy needs a title, but “Captain” just doesn’t feel right. “Major Retard” is more fitting.
Comment by G-Man — June 3, 2009 @ 11:22 pm
This is completly obsurd to bash these guys, for simply truing to better themselves, sure the Dad is an ass but I am 100% positive that all the tree huggers on this site are completly perfect have never been mad or even yelled at someone. You know life is much easier when you driving a BMW and just because you found god comment #8 does not make you perfect. This guy seems to have some issues but at least he is trying to create a business for his kid, not buy his way through life. The DNR is nothing more that and orginazation set up by the state to collect money from hard working people that already pay there taxes.
So here is what is going to happen, The DNR will see that S&S is doing something good by cleaning up the waterways fine them with possible imprisonment, then take that fine and pay someone lese double to clean th old growth logs out let them sell it and make a killing.

Comment by Eldorado — August 3, 2009 @ 12:31 pm
It was not too many years ago that the environmentalists (tree huggers) and the state claimed that logs in the water were bad for the river ecology. That was their excuse for getting the log rafts removed from the rivers. Now they want to blast someone for taking old logs out of the river, because they say it is good for the rivers ecology. Can’t have it both ways. Jimmy should have gotten a permit though. When I was growing up in the Twin Harbors area, logs were considered property of the logging companies and all you had to do was get a permit from them (Weyerhaeuser in particular).
Comment by Bill — August 7, 2009 @ 4:39 pm
First off, have of the good things are cut out of the show,, James is a good dad and does not scream all the time,, Hell my dad yelled and scream at me, and i feel it made me a better person,, second,, I beleive the Hoquiam river is on Tribal land,, DNR has no right telling anyone what to do!
Some of you tree huggers need to get a grip, half the crap on that show is BS! L&I
should shut all of them down,,, for unsafe work! Loggin is very dangerous, and don’t need a TV show to glamorize it!
Comment by Nick Jacoby — August 24, 2009 @ 2:46 pm
The DNR is out of line again, still! Making sure the logging operation is safe is one thing. Trying to fine them for taking logs that are stuck in the river is another. If anything, the dnr should go after the logging company that left them behind, and pay S&S a fee for taking them out. They are making the river much more safe for others who are boating on the river. Requiring a permit is not out of line. The dnr should know who is working in what area so that if a problem develops they know who to go talk to about what happened. Permiting for this operation should be no different then permiting for the forest tracts. Anything that lived around those removed logs found a new place to do what they do in no time at all, just like the animals in the forest tracts have done. Wildlife adjusts to life a whole lot eaiser than people because they only deal with the situation. They don’t over think the situation, nor do they throw emotions into the situation. We definetly need to watch what is happening in our enviroment, but taking logs that have been there for years and years, is not hurting the enviroment anymore than leaving them there for all those years hurt the enviroment. I challenge the dnr, or the greenies and tree huggers to tell all of us with just the facts, no emotion, just exactly what was harmed, and prove that it was harmed, when those logs were removed from the river.
Comment by Bill — August 30, 2009 @ 9:22 am

Comment by Jth — August 30, 2009 @ 1:00 pm
Just another attempt by Big Brother to further squash the working man in this nation that is going down the toilet quicker than you can blink!
Claim enviro damage by removing logs that MAN put there, NOT NATURE! What a joke! Do some research and you will find the WSDOT, replaced a wooden supported bridge over the river to resolve aging issues and under benefits site, Safety and environmental benefits. Stating “This project improves the natural flow of the river by removing the piles from the river.” www.wsdot.wa.gov/projects/US101/ForkHoquiamRiverBridge/
Ok, gottcha, it’s ok if they spend millions of tax dollars to ‘restore’ the natural flow of the river, but it’s wrong if hard working citizens do it on there dime, no cost to the tax payers, and hey, maybe they will have a dinner on the table instead of a hand out from Uncle Sam. (remember we are not the bank or wall street)
As for Jim and James working relationship, I for one smile, laugh, and shed a tear. Takes me for a walk down memory lane with my late father! I thank my father regularly for being so stubborn and hard on me! I know what work is, know how to respect people and my belongings and KNOW I am a better man! I bet you dimes to donuts anyone of us show up on their door at dinner time the door would be open and a plate would be set down for us and get treated like family!
Shut um down for unsafe work environment, geez, when was the last time you been inside some of the “OSHA Inspected” places? Some of you need to get a grip, oh that’s right you believe the government knows best, after all they steal from us everyday! Here’s a clue When it’s your time to go, it’s your time to go, no amount of ’safty’ equipment is going to stop it!
One question I do have, why isn’t the TV program helping with this mess? Seems some fault lays on their shoulders! It’s all about the dollar bills unless someone is doing it for them selves, then it’s about the need to keep the people down!
Comment by Odis — August 30, 2009 @ 1:30 pm

It takes all kind to make the world go round and thess are just a few malajusted people trying to make a living the hardest way possible. The DNR did not do much homework. They said on the TV that the guys said the logs were worth $1000’s of dollars thus makeing them theft from the public. Wrong. S&S said they had salvaged many from the rivers that were worthless. The logs were only worth money after salvage, cleaning, drying and then milled to working size lumber. The Value was not there until something was made from the worthless rotting waterway hazards. The dnr had no responsability over the logs till they wanted to make an easy name for themselves busting a noncrime. I agree that S&S should send the DNR a bill for the jobs they did clearing the waterways of navigational hazards. Thats my tcw. I will be donating to the help fund.

I Know a couple of idiots like theese guys and its kind of funny they are also father and son. They have no idea or will to take care of their equiptment and scream when it breaks or doesnt work right. Just the safety precautions theese two morons ignor is bad enough but they have no respect for the enviroment or other peoples property. The episode when his barge is sinking and that woman reluctantly allows them to use her launch ramp says it all (did anyone notice the amount of damage the trailer tounge did to the blacktop?). There is no other term for the smiths but “pig idiots” they ignorantly destroy wild habitat, land they dont even own and almost get killed every 5 minutes by thier own reckless endangerment, and on top of that their both a holes……

I agree that Jimmy is verbally abusive to his son on the show. Has anybody heard of editing and producers who want ratings? These logs are misplaced cargo. If a semi looses a piece of cargo off of his load into the ditch on the interstate it is the same thing. S&S is just cleaning up the ditch, albiet 80 years later. Saying they are disrupting the enviroment is ludicris. Let them pay a little fine, issue them some permits and let them support their families. God help them that they don’t kill themselves.

The best thing James could do is pop the old man in the mouth and put him on his ass, then he might be think before he goes off on him. Father or not, I would not let anyone speak to me like that idiot speaks to his son.
As for the WA DNR they are just looking to make a quick buck, as stated many times earlier, these logs were from 80 years or more ago, it is not THEFT. If the state of Washington was so goddamn interested in the value of these logs then why the fuck did they not remove them? It’s a classic case of the government TRUMPING up the charges as high as they possibly can, and put pressure on you to either plead, or go to prison with a big fine. Until the people wake up we are headed to hell in a handbasket, it’s time for the 2nd Revolution. It’s time for real change on this planet we need a complete shift in paradigms our current view is to be the death of the human race eventually.

Ok for starters although it appears this guy runs a fly by night operation i feel that the goverment is at fault in this ordeal as well trees are not typically found in water unless they fall into the water or a few species that grow in water but there isnt a tree in the world that grows in a river the goverment claims that a permit was required to remove the trees that were in the river this is a classic example of the goverment double dipping on its citizens public forests rivers etc. are maintained by the goverment at the expense of the taxpayers dollars therefore im sure S$S aqua logging has paid taxes therefore they have every right to remove the logs furthermore national parks and rivers (and the resources contained within the forests and rivers) are there to used by the public and as far as i am concerned this stuff has been floating around in the river for 100 years so if any of us pulled a bottle out of a ditch on the side of the road that was there for 100 years does that make us a criminal? the goverment in this country is out of control and of course if anyone was in a boat and hit a log or tree that didnt belong in the river in the first place they would be pissed and im sure the goverment would not claim responsibility either
Comment by Rob Harmon — January 10, 2010 @ 5:59 pm
Could it be possible that Jimmy checked into a permit for his operation?? Could it be he was told “We don’t issue permits for that”? If the DNR didn’t flat out tell me my plan was outright illegal, I would assume no permit was necessary. Some government types have poor langauge skills and are not very good at communicating.

The logs contained in the rivers of Washington or any other river in the united states are NOT the property of the state or federal government, they are litter by definition, and have not occurred naturally by way of growth under water, I am certain if a group of people , or individuals were to remove common trash or other debris from the rivers they would be applauded, the removal of these logs is not a criminal act, of course I have read a lot as to these men being criminals, has anyone failed to see or even given notice that the IRS is not involved, oh, they must of paid there taxes then, I am sure that once this is challenged they will be victorious, if these rivers were to flood there banks and deposit these logs onto private property, would the State pay the landowner to remove them, No, and since the State has claimed ownership of said Logs I am assuming that if a person, or family were to drown as a result of the “deadheads” the the State of Washington would be liable for the value of the lives that there “property” has caused the deaths of ? “ATTENTION ALL RESIDENTS OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON, IF YOU OR ANY VESSEL HAS BEEN DAMAGED AS A RESULT OF THE TIMBER IN ANY AND ALL RIVERS WITHIN SAID STATE, THEN CONTACT THE DNR AND REQUEST IMMEDIATE REIMBURSEMENT BECAUSE THEY HAVE PUBLICLY ADMITTED OWNERSHIP OF THAT WHICH CAUSED YOU HARM”
Comment by RON — January 10, 2010 @ 10:02 pm
To the dumbasses who say Jimmy is abusive: It is a TV show, you dumbasses. They are acting. These guys earn a few bucks by clearing a river of a few snags and other hazards to navigation and are doing a public service called “salvage”. On the high seas, it is a common business. Since this river is tidal and clearly navigable, I doubt if the state even has jurisdiction.

Jimmy and James; what a pair of rubes! They crack me right the hell up. I was raised on a river in NW FL and this is very reminiscent of the way ‘river folks’ are. I don’t believe they’re acting at all. I also have had many near misses with deadheads in the river and would wish that someone could remove the dangers that were sometimes visible and sometimes not, depending upon the river stage. The WA DNR must be trying to score points with the obamanation administration! WA State / Washington, D.C.; seems as though there’s no difference. Maybe we should send Jimmy to D.C. to present his case to Hussein Obama personally; hell, they could have a beer or two in the Rose Garden! LOL! Long Live S&S Aqua Logging!

This family poured everything they had into this operation you can plainly see that, they’ve been doing this for some time. its not like the first time they did this was episode #1 the agency was embarrassed and had to put their nose where it didn’t belong. This work can be done legitimately through the proper channels. It would be nice to see an industry spring up around this sort of business. If I were in their shoes I would learn from this mistake and try to champion safe legal processes to salvaging the waste the logging industry have discarded. Good luck and best wishes.

When we have politicians that steal or misappropriate millions of dollars a day, it is hard to imagine anyone begrudging a man and his son who through hard work are just trying to survive. It is apparent they are not getting rich rapeing the state of rare resources. They are men removing what other men left behind. Accusing them of theft is like saying people who pick up litter along the roadways are thieves. Permits: probably required and needed. Otherwise, leave them to hell alone!

I can’t believe how many people think this is some liberal environmentalist government plot to keep the working man down. If that’s the case let me know your address so I can come log your property. I need wood for my fireplace and woodburning stove and I obviously don’t need permission from you cause that’s the pussy liberal government way to do things. This idiot didn’t bother to get permits or permission, then he went on TV. I used to live in Washington and there is logging going on everywhere so I can’t believe it is too hard to get permits to do this either. This guy is just too stupid to be in business for himself. I’m a contractor and I can’t run around building things without a contractor’s license and building permits or I get shut down. But these two are entertaining as hell to watch. Jimmy can’t even use a tow rope. Hilarious. They are definitely the comic relief of the show.

Did they fine the crew whom cleaned Lake Washington many years ago for dredging out all those logs and such near where now days many go to JUMP from the bridges and boat I do not think so and to think the Family that owned METRO (I think they still run it) that ran that clean up project. So why all the backing of the government when they like to cause so much problems for every one else.. Remember the farmers and how they were hounding them thank the good lord that that don’t really happen much any more and for the food they have grown over the many years. To all those that like to run red tape try taping your mouths instead and get off your asses and do some real PICK THE SHOVEL AND DIG ANOTHER WELL back breaking work cause paper shover’s will see that they will need to have permits soon if they don’t stop sniffing out the hard working folks that are the real back bones to the Country. As for the abused and I was told it comes with the job… I would like to say it could mellow down some though…. say where they take a log out will that allow the boaters to pull up if they need and will there be some new better places to fish after this….at least I know in those places that a log was harvest I am not going to slip on some slippery water lagged log and hit my head on some ol’ big branch sticking out that mite kill me or worse cripple me for life…
Comment by Nora Mae — February 17, 2010 @ 4:52 pm
I think Jimmy is a idiot & he should get the permits he needs to log there. He is doing a good sameratan deed for the boating community of that area. If the man makes money at it that is even better congreats Jimmy. If the gov. doesnt have permits for aqualogging then just a permit to harvest logs should be as good as he needs. I hope he succeds at it and he makes millions upon millions. I would donate to them but I am unemployed at this time,I think this man is a genuis cleaning the hazards that could damage a$500 -$50,000 or more fishing boat, fancy house boat or any thing that floats.Plus the wood is very pretty- awsome. Thanks for safety of the boaters in your area,he needs to be a safer worker and be alot more safety wise for the ones working for him famliy, friends or employes, and the ones just hangingout. So keep up the work but let the gov. get the money for the permits and no other money we all must play buy the rules. When some one tears down or cleans up a old barn site and reclaims that wood no one crys about them harming the enviroment they get praised for not cutting down trees and cousing damage to the ecosystem. So get off the mans back and let him make money the american way and by doing something no one else wants to do.

although im not from washinton we have a similar river here thats full of these trees and logs. steamboats used to navigate this river but now you cant even in a flat bottom boat without hitting a tree or log. all the trees and logs cause sand to build up so much that in late summer you can wade across the river in places and not even get your knees wet. and because of this thousands of acres of trees have died from the back water because the river couldnt shed the water fast enough from heavy rains. i hear some saying (this is harboring insects and other food for fish, and creating pools and riffles where fish can rest) it createing resting place alright “A FINALE RESTING PLACE after they become traped in the shallow water . so everone here squaking about the environment needs to take this into consideration first.

Jimmy and James are both such dorks. These guys are the most uncoordinated, unorgranized dweebs I’ve ever seen try to run a ‘business’. They are only on the History Channel for plain comedy relief. Logging? These two retards can’t log anything! They both need to get some experience on a boat for starters, because I would feel comfortable saying I think I could handle a boat, and dock it much better then these idiots and I’ve driven a boat two times. Goodness..
Comment by Kenny — February 28, 2010 @ 10:33 pm
Only in America, yes they did overlook permit requirements (possibly). But how inept can the DNR be. How long did they need to figure out something wrong was being done. 100 million Americans had been watching, where the heck we’re they. Did the television execs ever wonder if things we’re proper. Someone at DNR should be fired! Anyone ever seen the Northwest rivers at flood stage. which happens almost every year. I guess the folks at DNR will fine Mother Nature for flushing the river every year. Yes, watching S&S at work is hilarious and only reminds us of the importance of being safe and aware in the workplace. It also highlights the issue of communicating with mutual respect and intelligence. When we see the show and see Jimmy and his Son doing so poorly at communicating, I hope we take note and look at ourselves to avoid doing the same. Also remember that everything these guys say and do is recorded live, possibly creating mental pressure that could cause havoc.
Comment by Rodney Smith — March 4, 2010 @ 2:14 am
First of all. I agree they don’t seem to have all the intel needed but any wealthy business owner that I have met doesn’t seem to have any common since yet they make tons of money. They need to have all there documentation in order no sympathy there. The logs being seized by the state was plain and simple theft because they could. If the logs they are removing are cut down by man then they didn’t belong there and was given up for lost by the original company that attempted to float them to the mill which should make them fair game for anyone that can safely retrieve them. Any log the fell naturally should not be allowed to be touched. The sunkin tember while providing fish and wild life EXTRA habitat that normally would not have been there. It is causing current shifts shipping hazards and should be removed in my opinion. As the laws in georgia may very natural flowing water has NO OWNER its contents also have NO OWNER. The logs had an owner who abandoned them.if the state wants their cut for the logs they should reward these guys for removing them and fine the original owners if still in operation for littering. Not to mention the possible damage that was caused by the disruption of natural flowing currents.

DNR in any state meens DO NOTHING RIGHT,that said we will get on to Jimmy and James. The man loves his kid and the same goesfor James. You idiots think this is the first that Jimmy started yelling at James, think again.James knows his dad and his manor,if it bothered him enough then he would get a job elsewhere, but guess what,he’s still working with his dad.Which one of you looked into Washington’s laws and found the aqua logging permits.Couldn’t do it could you?I’ll bet Jimmy tried to also but couldn’t find anything out either so he just started working, but now they will keep his logs and try to steal as much money they can from Jimmy and his son.I will definately donate to their legal fees to help them get back to it.Peter Goldmarkand Mr.Greg Hueckel, are you kidding me?The fish and the river bed was there long before we(man)sunk those logs there and will be there long after we take those logs out.I myself have made fish houses and shelters out of brush and wood frames that I sunk in lakes here and had to remove them because it’s against the law for me to do thes,so Jimmy is only cleaning up illegal fish habitat. As for the insects, don’t be stupid. These guys are doing us all a favor by cleaning up the waterways and if they can make a profit doing it then they should.Just like finding valuables(treasures)in the Oceans it’s first come first serve.A man shouldn’t be punished for working just because the liberals think you should be rewarded by reaping benefits from those that work. What they earn is theirs not yours just because you think you deserve a cut, those logs ARE public property just like some of you said and Jim and James got to them first,so fine them and let them get back to work, this screwed up government has already put enough out of work already.I would venture to bet that all those who think Jimmy is in the wrong also voted in this non-American muslem Leader.Nuf said by me.If I affended you so be it you will get over it.

Of course the government has to get into the act who else will here’em. Rember what the Fla. Gov did to Mel Fisher eventually Mel won thank God. Anyway back to these guys yea the Gov didnt do any deadhead and tree removal on those rivers but let some working guy and well we want some of his money. Yes they should have got permits if required. Oh well I still look forward to seeing them on tv what a good time watching them all do their thing. Great comedy keep it comming.

Come On Steve McQueen. They are not CUTTING down anything. If a previous logger came through and logged my land and left the logs long before I owned the property, and I had NO REAL use for them, then help yourself to all the fire wood you want. It’s not like they are taking something somebody else had plans on using. Others blaming them on causeing water level to lower is plain insaine.. They are not removing beaver dams, and as a mater of fact..leaving the logs in the water will cause the levels of water to rise, but so will the bottom of the river (silt, sand and any other thing that gets caught behind them). It saddens me to see these guys under attack. But as most state agencies..they want claim to anything that anybody can benifit from. If you hit a deer, you cannot sue DNR even though you have to pay to hunt them.
Leave the guys alone, and let them take what up untill this point was worth NOTHING. If they where cutting down live trees, it would be different. And as stated, these trees had NO (ZERO) $$ value to them untill they where worked. S&S contact the cost guard under another name and ask permission. I bet you’ll get the run around.

As for Jimmy or James being an accident waiting to happen, they seem to have done fine so far. I notice Jimmy has all his limbs. So does James. Look at another on the show, and I bet you he was safe when his accident happened. Sure, I’d be uncomfortable to work with Jimmy, but it seems to work for him, so let him Be. I know a few who yell, I get more concerned for his health then anything. And for the comment that James needs to bust his father in the mouth, get real. Its his father. If it was sooo bad, he wouldn’t be there. I bet History Channel don’t show much of Jimmy speaking calmly, or his true feelings, but I’m sure James knows, and his father has told him. He just gets flustered too easily..

The best episode is the one where he is using the bulldozer to drag an especially large log up the bank at his …house? The end is dug into the bank so badly that it won’t move. He rocks the dozer back and forth over and over again until something finally blows. He is so lucky he didn’t break a cable that day that I think he is still living on borrowed time. He is the luckiest, stupidest logger I’ve ever seen.

The Dad is a borferline brain dead retard… This is confirmed when the camera pans in for those empty gazes he goes in to (This is where I want to punch him) I dont believe Ive ever met someone so backwards in realife..Last episode he was jumping to bank from the boat (Im talking 2 feet) a toddler could have made it.. But Ole’ Jim somehow once again ends up in the sink..screamin about cell phones once again. Hopefully the son cuts ties with his lazy sticky finger ol man (He did steal pond bears Bouied logs..confirms low principles, then lays his fat ass up in the motel while sunny goes to work..LOOOL) I still at least want to slap the shit out of that old man.

I worked for the DNR many years ago, and they’ve always been psycho, left-wing bastards, who’ll seize anything they think they can get by with, and harass anyone who isn’t part of their far-left, Greenie pack of corporate groupies.
I left, to get an honest job.
Pretending that removing dangerous hazards to navigation is just plain stupid. Does anyone really believe that crap?
The Hoquiam River has been unsafe for navigation or water sports of any type for decades because of these subsurface logs. This guy, belligerent a-hole that he is, is doing everyone a favor by getting rid of them.
It’s for damn certain the DNR has never done anything about these hazards in their entire history.
A few decades back we saw several boats wrecked and a badly injured water skiier, over one large deadhead just below the surface. The Coast Guard & DNR got complaint after complaint about this thing, and a year later it was still there.
A couple of us finally borrowed a log truck, hooked a long chain to the thing and finally pulled the damn thing to the shore.
It’s long past the Statute of Limitations, DNR, so you can just kiss my a**
