Abortion, The Death Penalty and Health Care
3 topics that have been sitting in my head tonight I have to get out so I can go to sleep. They are all related. I shall try to explain my thinking process on each.
There are some underlying definitions I have to present first from, which my views originate.
A. Killing a person is wrong, unless you are defending yourself from being killed from an aggressive attacker. If you believe in “souls”, killing takes place when the “soul” can not be held by the body anymore and leaves. Aggressive means at the time your own life is in danger, the attacker knowingly and willingly put your life in danger. If they do not know or if they are not willingly doing it, then there must be a different aggressive attacker you must be looking for to defend yourself. Without the knowingly and willingly part you would have to believe that there are no true accidents, and no matter what the circumstances everyone must be held accountable for everything, even beyond there control.
Or
B. You must believe killing people is a tool that can be exercised based on some criteria or set of rules.
Abortion
Argument 1. You believe killing another person is wrong. You believe people have “souls”. If you believe those statements then abortion is wrong, if you don’t believe 1 or 2 then abortion by your view is alright. The main argument I hear is the fetus doesn’t have a “soul” so it is alright to dispose of it. This would be a fine and dandy argument other then it is unanswerable. At present I don’t believe there is anyway to tell if there is a “soul” or not(other then personal belief) and if there is no way to tell, then there is no way to know when there would be a “soul”. Don’t kid yourself that by math, time and/or expert opinion that anyone can say when there is a “soul”. If you believe there is no “soul” in a fetus up to a certain point then there is one, you must believe there are “souls”. You must believe killing another person is not wrong but a tool since you can’t tell when there is a “soul” and you still believe in abortion, you approve of it with the chance of killing a person since there could be a “soul”, you don’t know there isn’t.
Argument 2. The second argument I hear supporting abortion gets a little sticky. A mothers who’s life is in danger has the right to have an abortion. The only problem is the fetish/baby is not a willing attacker and is not knowingly attacking. Through no fault of there own the baby is causing some harm. The attacker would be the people who conceived the baby. They knowingly and willingly took part in an act that they knew could lead to a baby and should accept the consequences. In the case of rape, the attacker would be the rapist and should be held accountable but not the baby. Bad people do bad things everyday, in case of rape and abortion the mother passes the buck(it’s sad they have the buck but it is wrong to pass the buck) onto someone else willingly and knowingly. 1. Killing another person is wrong. 2. You believe people have “souls”. Then you can’t believe in abortion even for this argument. If you believe this argument, then you must believe B. Killing people is a tool.
Both arguments boil down to people that support these arguments believe killing a person is not wrong, but a tool. A tool to get some sort of outcome. I don’t see anyway if you agree with the above arguments it could be any other way. Killing as a tool is accepted by some societies, even the death penalty in the U.S. shows support that killing is not wrong, but is a tool.
The Death Penalty
A. You believe killing is wrong and there should be no Death Penalty.
or
B. Killing is not wrong, but is a tool to be used based on some sort of goal, governed by guidelines/rules. Most of the arguments for the death penalty are economic based ones. The drag on a society by keeping someone locked up costs way to much. Even if innocent people die from the death penalty it is alright if you accept that killing is a tool.
From the issues above and the base statements that go with them, you can start to see the underlying principals that affect most of societies hot button topics. Hypocritical people that don’t hold beliefs, just opinions are like catalysts to the debate, causing confusion and showing stupidity which brings active discussion to a stand still stopping any sort of self improvement a discussion could bring, learning is bad, me no learn, me like argue.
It is easy to see from the above 2 issues how people will stand on several other issues, unless they are hypocritical and just believe in opinions without caring to explore what those opinions are and what they mean.
Health Care
Health care coverage is another lively debate. Who should be covered for what and how should it be payed for. Currently our system in place for everyone is everyone should be stabilized, meaning we should stop them from deteriorating if it is immediately life threatening even if they can’t pay for it. The society in the U.S. bears this costs.
If you believe in abortion and/or you believe in the death penalty, you believe killing people is a tool. You would have to disagree with the current health care system in the U.S. Before stabilizing, an analysis should be done based on some sort of guideline, and if the drain on society is to much then let the person die. If you believe in the death penalty and or/ abortion you believe that even health insurance companies should have an option to treat someone or not based on pre-existing guidelines and has the right to deny coverage if it doesn’t meet the guidelines.
If you believe the current system is a good system(underlying assumption that everyone has the right to life, and society will bear the costs), then you must believe killing people is not a tool, abortion is wrong and the death penalty is wrong.
If you flip flop sides between the Abortion, Death Penalty and Health Care, you are a hypocritical person, arguing opinions instead of trying to learn what they are and probably have a hard time learning and listening.
If you believe in The Death Penalty, Abortion and killing is a tool and you are Christian at the moment, you should really find a new religion because your current one really doesn’t mesh with your beliefs. Don’t worry there are plenty of people that do believe like you. Some societies and people that embraced your beliefs and acted on them, Nazism(Hitler), Saddam, The Spartans, various terrorists, the KKK, Mao Zedong, Khmer Rouge and various tribes in Africa doing ethnic cleansing.
