Do dogs have 4 legs?
It’s an odd question to ask, do dogs have 4 legs? I have posed this question to people who say dogs have elbows.
Upon further research on ACK.org, the mention elbows in several places, and forearms connected to the elbow. One thing is clear, they have 4 feet and no hands.
4 legs? 2 legs + 2 arms?
Some definitions from ACK.org about Dogs.
Elbow The posterior region of the articulation between the arm and forearm.
Arm The anatomical region between the shoulder and the elbow. Sometimes called the upper arm.
Forearm The portion of the forelimb between the arm and the wrist.
Fiddle front Forelegs out at elbows, pasterns close, and feet turned out.
Ankle See hock. Hock The collection of bones of the hind leg forming the joint between the second thigh and the metatarsus; the dog’s true heel. Hmmm ankles on the hind leg. Hmmm hind leg?
So as far as I can tell dogs have a forlimb or forleg, made up of arm/upper arm, elbow, forearm, wrist and foot… A forearm, elbow, upper arm combination in my book = arm.
So do dogs have 4 legs? And if they don’t do any animals really have 4 legs?
